Nail Diseases
Onychocryptosis / Ingrown Toenail
It is called the condition where the side of the nail has penetrated the skin. It may present inflammation as well as pain, and it is difficult to treat without professional help. The most common causes are tight shoes, incorrect nail trimming, hyperhidrosis, and obesity.
Onychogryphosis
It is called the condition in which the nail becomes hypertrophic and deformed. This may be due to neglect and lack of care or to injury to the nail bed. It could be a major injury (for example, a heavy object falling on the toenail) or minor recurring trauma (for example minor repetitive injuries from tight shoes). This type of nails also need podiatric care as they are difficult to treat and sometimes sores appear under the nail.
Onychomycosis – Fungal Toenail
It is called the condition in which the nail is infected with fungi. Such fungi can be dermatophytes or yeasts. Patients usually notice a fungal nail due to the aesthetic difference of the nail, ie the affected nail may be thickened, easily broken or detached from the skin, as well as changed in color (yellow, brown, black). The outcome of the treatment for onychomycosis depends on how early treatment starts, the sooner we decide to treat it the better.
