Biomechanics

“Biomechanics” is defined as the scientific specialty that deals with the application of the principles and methods of engineering and technology in the study, understanding, treatment and rehabilitation of the human musculoskeletal system. More specifically, podiatry biomechanics includes the study of posture and gait, with the aim of treating and restoring the function of the foot and its correlation with the rest of the musculoskeletal system.

Such examination is particularly effective in the treatment of pathologies such as flat feet, high-arched feet, pain in the front part of the foot (shin, metatarsalgia), pain in the arch area, pain in the back of the foot (spur, plantar fasciitis), as well as pain in the knees or hips.

Many painful conditions (such as callus) as well as many injuries (sports injuries) of the foot are due to increased pressure on the soles of the feet. The biomechanical examination allows us to identify the etiology of these pressures and correct them. This correction is usually performed using custom made insoles as well as personalized exercise regime.
